MyISAM supports special kinds of indexes that only store the hash of the data in the index tree. This is used in internal temporary tables that the optimizer creates to resolve SELECT DISTINCT queries. So, MyISAM can do it internally, but there is no way for the end user to create such a unique constraint explicitly. The goal of the project is about giving the access to this MyISAM feature to the SQL layer and allowing the end user to create long unique constraint explicitly. Currently, InnoDB doesn't support long unique constraints. So the 2nd goal of this project is to implement this feature in InnoDB.
