Photometric Calibration Tool Kit
Camera calibration is always an important part of almost every vision applications. As the direct method of SLAM developed in recent years, only geometry calibration is not enough. Photometric calibration of a camera, which takes the camera response function, dense lens attenuation factors (vignetting effect) into account and recover the irradiance images, plays a key role in direct method SLAM. As I have tested on TUM Monocular Visual Odometry Dataset, camera pose tracking with photometric calibration has much smaller scale drift than without photometric calibration using Direct Sparse Odometry and LSD-SLAM. So I think it’s necessary to provide an out-of-the-box tool kit to photometrically calibrate users’ cameras.
