Currently there exists a great variety of OSM map rendering libraries, but a fast offline OpenGL based library is needed. libosmscout offers offline rendering and routing functionalities based on OpenSreetMap data. Right now libosmscout implements renderer based on libagg, cairo, DirectX, Qt. An OpenGL (ES) renderer would offer the possibility of fast rendering on desktop and also on mobile devices. In this proposal I describe a possible method for rendering OSM map data with the help of OpenGL.
