OpenMS is an open-source software C++ library for mass spectrometry (MS) data management and analyses. A common task in proteomics is to identify and quantify proteins in complex biological mixtures. In a standard tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) protocol, a crucial part is to control the uncertainty in peptide identifications generated by search engines that match MS spectra to peptides. Based on an idea suggested by the OpenMS team, I propose a project to improve the posterior error probability estimation for peptide search engine results in OpenMS.
