The motive is enable support for large binary file formats in Genoverse, a genome browser that is written in javascript. This project would involve writing javascript parsers for BigWig, BigBed and VCF file formats. Once this support is added, Genoverse could be adopted by Ensembl for use in their genome browser. This would let Ensembl to process the files on client side and reduce load on server, letting it handle the large amount of genome data Ensembl hosts.
